A McDonald’s mishap

An image of what appears to be an official McDonald’s document made the social media rounds over the weekend causing quite a stir. The notice alerts customers that African-Americans will be charged an additional $1.50 per transaction due to a recent string of robberies.

While McDonald’s has maintained that the photograph is a hoax, Twitter users have continued to re-tweet the picture using the hashtag ‘SeriouslyMcDonalds.’ It became such a hot topic that it broke onto the trending topics on Twitter over the weekend. The document, which lists the KFC guest satisfaction phone number as it’s contact number, is definitely a fake.

As much as social media has become a tool for the PR professional, it can quickly become the source of a super-sized disaster for organizations such as McDonald’s. Remember to plan and prepare for the unexpected. Have a disaster response plan accessible for situations like these.
